/ A Transversal Study on Empowerment
cfd has worked with empowerment projects for many years. The 'Transversal Study on Empowerment' systematically assimilates the many experiences and insights gained, and makes them accessible to a broader public. It focuses on empowerment as a strategy for extending the scope of action open to women. Local researchers have analysed the approaches used, the practice of empowerment and its effects in 16 cfd projects based in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Israel, Palestine and Morocco, as well as in projects within the context of migration in Switzerland. The 'Transversal Study on Empowerment' is based on these analyses.
By focusing on violence, safety and resources, the study highlights three areas central to a feminist politics of peace. It also discusses the empowerment approach and can serve as a basis for the further development of programmes concentrating on gender issues and peace building. It can also help develop instruments that can assess the processes of empowerment and peace. In this sense, the study can be of interest to hands-on project workers, advisors for international cooperation and peace building, as well as for social scientists.
